Monolith Podcast - Episode 34: Trick 'r Treat

Starring Pumpkinhead Jr.

I can't say we're going to make a habit of reviewing movies that go straight to video, but Trick 'r Treat turned out to be pretty damn good. I'm not exactly sure why Warner Bros. scrapped plans for a theatrical release and shelved this movie for two years, but I have my have my theories (yes, that's a tease for you to listen to the show.) Also, in the spirit of All Hallows' Eve, Chuck and I discuss at length the David Letterman scandal. Indeed, nothing says Halloween like extortion and improper workplace relations. If you hadn't guessed by now, this is a very eclectic episode. Join the fun and help spread the word about MONOLITH!

Monolith - Rewind: The Scientology Episode

A "religious" film

Whenever Chuck and I try to reach an agreement on the most memorable show we've done, "The Scientology Episode" always comes first to mind. At the time we were genuinely scarred about posting this episode. Looking back now, I can't see why (my guess is that we're dumb.) I mean really, is Tom Cruise going to smite us through the help of his Alien Overlord?

After rummaging through the MONOLITH archives, I located "The Scientology Episode" and decided this episode must be reposted! I had to edit the intro song (turns out, not everybody is a fan of Chuck's singing) but the rest of episode is intact. This is truly, one of our most entertaining episodes so take a listen and help spread the word about MONOLITH!

Original post from 11/22/2008:
Can a simple documentary & movie review spell the end of the Monolith Podcast? Is Scientology a "cult" or a "religion"? Is Tom Cruise guilty of PROSELYTIZING (big word of the day) in his film, War of the Worlds? Will Don and Chuck fall victim to a "Fair Game" reprisal attack? Will the audience be entertained? Take a listen and find out.

Monolith Podcast - Episode 33: Inglourious Basterds & G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Go watch now!

Rarely do I watch the same film twice during it's theatrical run. As a matter of fact, I almost never have the urge to watch the same movie twice at home. Yet the Inglorious Basterds was so good I watched it twice in the same weekend (I had nothing better to do.) Before the Inglorious Basterds, the only film I seen twice in the theater on the same weekend was Lionheart starring Jean Claude Van Damme. I felt no other movie could elicit such a strong reaction out of me. I was wrong. I've seen Inglorious Basterds twice this weekend and I want to see it again.

In today's episode, we've got an in-depth review of Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds. Be forewarned, there will be spoilers. Also, we've got Chuck's review of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. A film Chuck liked so much that he had to watch it twice on the same weekend...seriously. This is truly an EPIC-SIZED episode. So take a listen, have a laugh and help spread the word about MONOLITH!

Monolith Podcast - Episode 32: The Mist & Strikeforce - Carano vs. Cyborg

The Mist

It's hard to believe we've been doing this show for a year. It seems like only yesterday Chuck and I recorded our very first show about some absolutely random horror movie (the GOD awful Undead.) We've come a long way since then. Reviewing everything from sports, TV, politics, video games, Chuck's life. Nothing was safe from our analytical eye.

So perhaps it was fitting that we come full-circle on our first anniversary show by reviewing another totally random horror movie, The Mist. This film came out about two-years ago but it's one of our recent favorites here at MONOLITH. But more importantly, Shawn's back! He joins us later in the show to discuss the Strikeforce - Gina Carano vs. Cris Cyborg MMA card from San Jose and the latest news about Michael Vick. At over 90 minutes, we go all out on this episode so take a listen and help spread the word about MONOLITH!

Monolith Podcast - Episode 31: Mid-Summer Movie Preview Spectacular

R.I.P

Say what you will about the man, but you cannot deny the fact that Michael Jackson had UNGODLY talent (plus he had his own video game!) We here at the MONOLITH could not do a show without mentioning the passing of the King Of Pop, he will be missed.

The Summer is filled with so many movies, we felt devoting an entire show to just one film would be silly. So Chuck and I decided to talk about a bunch (i.e., several) movies! Oh yes, today's episode is our first annual Mid-Summer Movie Preview Spectacular! There is nothing quite like two uninformed radio hosts offering opinions on films they haven't seen. Also, we've got a review of HBO's new series Hung. A show with strong parallels to Chuck's life (kind of eerie really.) A good time is guaranteed so take a listen and help spread the word about MONOLITH!

Monolith Podcast - Episode 30: Terminator: Salvation Review & UFC 98 Preview

Sadly, no Edward Furlong

Nothing kicks off the summer better than a good, kick-ass action movie. Sadly, Terminator: Salvation is not one of those movies. Admittedly, my hopes were not high for this film but it did live up to my low expectations. So in the end, it's kind of a win. Anyways, we've got one of our patented MONOLITH-style reviews for Terminator: Salvation. Also, Chuck makes his debut as a fight prognosticator as we preview UFC 98: Evans vs. Machida. Finally (and most importantly), we have part one of Chuck's new audio-story, BLACKOUT. Words can not describe the greatness that is Chuck's triumphant audio opus, one must simply experience it. Monolith Podcast - Episode 29: X-Men Origins: Wolverine Review

*Monolith Podcast does not endorse online piracy*

I'm sure the suits over at Fox are in panic mode over the leaked copy of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. And really, who the hell can blame them? Their huge summer blockbuster is available for free on the Internet before turning a single profit! But all is not lost, oh no.

As the good people at Fox deal with this potentially disastrous situation they can take solace in the fact that the Monolith Podcast has embraced X-Men Origins: Wolverine with open arms. That's right, on today's show, we review X-Men Origins: Wolverine, MONOLITH STYLE. Our resident film critic, The Chuck opted for the early screening and gives one of his most thorough and lucid reviews ever. Also, we make up for lost time and B.S. for over 90 minutes on the most random and inane subjects possible. To paraphrase Shawn, this show is "BIG TIMES." Big times, indeed. Monolith Podcast - Episode 28: The Wire: The Complete Series & Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li

I'm going to start this off with a simple, declarative statement....The Wire is the greatest television show I've ever seen. For the past month, all my free-time was devoted to watching this show. Looking back on it, I couldn't think of a better way to spend my time. I know, I'm gushing over a television show, but something this great (and criminally ignored by the general public) is deserving of high praise.

In today's episode, I try my best to recap The Wire. Yes, I TRY TO RECAP THIS SHOW! A daunting task for sure, considering the countless plotlines and characters, but I give it shot. Also, we've got a mysteriously high-pitched Chuck giving his thoughts on Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li. A film he loved as much as I loved The Wire. Monolith Podcast - The Lost Episode

Lost Episode? Yes, we here at the MONLITH PODCAST have a Lost Episode. I can't really vouch for this show (it was "lost" for a reason.) Simply put, I was not happy with it at the time. But when I listen back to it now, it's not half-bad.

Hell, I'm sure we've published worse since this was originally recorded months ago. If anything, it's fascinating to hear how bad The Chuck and I used to be on this show. Before he evolved into an engaging internet radio personality, telling tales of his wacky life, Chuck was simply a disinterested and bland co-host. And me...well, I just sucked (maybe I still do?) So here it is...the MONOLITH Podcast Lost Episode!!!

Monolith Podcast - Episode 26: The life of Chuck

Chuck's arch-nemesis

As promised on last week's episode, we've got Chuck back on tell his tale of woe. It's been a tough week for young Charles. He braved an attack from a knife-wielding psycho, endured invasive surgery, and ate a Fool's Gold Loaf sandwich (as did I.) Yes, this is all just par for the course for the man we call The Chuck. I have to say this is an interesting episode, unlike anything we've ever done. Take a listen and help spread the word about MONOLITH!

Monolith Podcast - Episode 24: Affliction Day of Reckoning & Mosley vs Margarito recap, Super Bowl XLIII Preview

Fedor = badass (photo:Sherdog.com)

I'm not sure what we've done to incur the wrath of the Podcasting Gods, but they decided to reek havoc on our humble little show. A string of scheduling issues and technical difficulties converged to make a perfect storm, hindering us from recording the show. While all seemed lost, we here at MONOLITH never gave up and we persevered despite all obstacles!!! After all the good stuff we watched this weekend, we knew this show MUST BE DONE.

Today, we have a show filled to the brim with awesomeness. First, we recap the excellent Affliction - Day of Reckoning PPV. If anything, this card confirmed Fedor Emelianenko is indeed the baddest man on the planet. Next, we have a breakdown of the outstanding Shane Mosley & Antonio Mararito title fight. Finally, Shawn talks up the big game, Super Bowl XLIII. Take a listen and help spread the word about MONOLITH!

Monolith Podcast - Episode 22: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

I think the term "Jam Session" is the best way to describe today's episode. Going into the show, we had no idea what we were going to talk about and just decided to wing it. In hindsight, this was stroke of accidental brilliance.

We've got one hell of an entertaining edition of the MONOLITH podcast! Today's show is chock full of wacky banter between myself and the Chuck on a wide variety of subjects. Everything from civil disputes, defective products (I'm looking at you Rock Band 2 Drums), Chuck's rock-n-roll fortune telling featuring the Eagles, and oranges!!! Most importantly, we've got the Chuck giving an excellent review on the film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Join the fun and help spread the word about MONOLITH!
